Tottenham vs Olympiacos is going to be the Match of the night in the Group B of the Champions League as Jose Mourinho’s rejuvenated men take on the Greek leaders at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs and Daniel Levy took the Footballing world by storm when the club decided to part ways with their now ex-manager, Mauricio Pochettino, just before the end of the International break.
And if that wasn’t enough, Daniel Levy one-upped that announcement by appointing Jose Mourinho as the replacement for the Argentinian. Strange times, right?
As it happened, Mourinho’s first game in charge turned out to be the London Derby against West Ham where Spurs just about managed to hold onto the much needed 3 points in their quest for the top 4 finish in the Premier League.
However, the Champions League is a completely different kettle of fish and the game against the Greek leaders, Olympiakos, promises to be an interesting and entertaining one for the fans and the neutrals alike:
TOTTENHAM VS OLYMPIACOS TEAM NEWS
Tottenham have had their fair share of injury vows which will continue when they host Olympiacos at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight.
The newly appointed gaffer will remain without the services of Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Erik Lamela and Ben Davies, however, the good news is that Jan Vertonghen and Tanguy NDombele have returned to the training and should be in contention to start:
Harry Kane suffered a knock during the latter stages of the 3-2 win vs West Ham at the weekend, but he should be fit and available for selection too.
As far as the Greek leaders are concerned, they should be at their full strength when they travel to London on Wednesday.
TOTTENHAM VS OLYMPIACOS PREDICTED STARTING ELEVEN
Dele Alli was really impressive, playing just behind Harry Kane during the weekend win over West Ham, and that should continue tonight despite the presence of Eriksen and Lo Celso on the bench, while Danny Rose should replace the injured Ben Davies at the left-back:
Meanwhile, Olympiacos manager, Pedro Martins has decided to set up more conservatively against the big teams in the Champions League and that should continue tonight as they set up in a 4-3-3:
The recent history favours the the Londoners as Tottenham have had an impressive record in the group stages of the Champions League, especially against the Greek teams:
As far as Olympiacos are concerned, their fans and manager will like to turn a blind eye to their recent record in the Champions League because nothing about that instills any confidence or inspiration for the Greek leaders:
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP B SCENARIOS
While it is already impossible for Olympiakos to make a case for the Knockout stages of the UCL, Tottenham have got everything to play for at home tonight.
The Londoners will qualify for the knockout stages if they manage a win against Olympiakos, although, even a draw would seal their spot in the last 16, given that Bayern Munich fails to register a win against Red Star Belgrade in the other match of the Group B.
NOTE: If 2 teams end on the same points, their head to head record against each other in the group stage will determine who finishes at the top
The arrival of Jose Mourinho has rejuvenated the Londoners and their weekend win against West Ham (and the quality of the players compared to their counterparts) should provide them with the confidence and belief to get the job done at home tonight.
Meanwhile, the Greek leaders only managed a 1-1 draw against Panionios on the weekend:
Prediction – 4-1 [Harry Kane (x2), Dele Alli, Lucas Moura], [Soudani]
